El pensamiento de Jean Jacques Rousseau y de Karl Marx tienen un nudo común. Esa unión llega hasta las líneas de pensamiento de Sigmund Freud y se extienden en una nueva concepción del materialismo. En las siguientes líneas, el autor comienza a explicar su idea.

Las ideas plateadas por Marx, completadas por Freud pueden sentar un precedente en el desarrollo de Rousseau sobre el buen salvaje. Hay aspectos similares que nos hablan –o nos puede hablar- de un antecedente de esas ideas. Ese ser genérico, el niño recién nacido y todavía unido en relación simbiótica con su madre, el hombre en su primer momento prehistórico, puede encontrar su fondo idílico en el buen salvaje rousseauniano.
No nos costaría afirmar, en consecuencia, que el buen salvaje es ese hombre en su esencia primera; el hombre que todavía no se ha desprendido de sus atributos naturales para ser atravesado por la cultura impuesta; el niño todavía no amenazado por la figura atemorizante del padre; el hombre en un estado prístino paradisíaco y, por supuesto, a estas alturas de civilización, perdido.
La naturaleza, en la teoría rousseauniana, cumple un papel materna. Hay un definido parangón entre la Madre y la Naturaleza, tomando en cuenta los avances teóricos subsiguientes. Es cierto, y no hay que dejar de destacar este aspecto, que cuando Rousseau se dedicó a esta hipótesis, los desarrollos psicoanalíticos, ni siquiera la teoría marxista de la primera época, estaban escritas y, por lo tanto, las de Rousseau, son las primeras aproximaciones que encontramos más o menos sistematizadas; al menos cubierta a de determinada cantidad de dedicación y siendo el eje de un desarrollo.
Decíamos que la Naturaleza, en el buen salvaje, es la verdadera madre que acoge al hombre y le brinda todos los elementos para que desarrolle su existencia gustosamente. En ella el hombre es pleno y feliz. La muerte no se presenta como un espectro amenazante. Hay también una relación que, aunque inscripta en el tiempo, es intemporal: la Naturaleza es ese lugar que todo le provee al hombre que tiene, aún, necesidades sumamente rudimentarias; en la Naturaleza, por lo tanto, encuentra todo lo que necesita. El buen salvaje se completa en la Naturaleza.
Ella es parte de su cuerpo; hay una relación casi de fusión. En la Naturaleza no le falta nada: la Madre Naturaleza lo cuida y abastece para satisfacer todas sus necesidades. En ella encuentra todo y, como todo está satisfecho y la muerte alejada, el buen salvaje no teme. No conoce el temor en su estado de naturaleza; nada lo alborota demasiado ni lo extravía de ese lazo fraternal que lo une al suelo maternal. Se siente protegido.Ese solazo, ese goce inestimable, se le acaba cuando cae sobre él la civilización. Es éste el punto de inflexión que trastorna absolutamente el ritmo de su existencia. La civilización llega como una enorme tijera para escindir, de una vez, fatalmente, su vínculo estrecho con la Madre Naturaleza. en términos freudianos: la civilización es la castración –o la amenaza de castración que lo hace arredrarse y retroceder en su arrebato- del padre; siguiendo a Marx: el ingreso a la cultura.
Con la cultura llegan los miedos y las enfermedades y los vicios y todos esos males, propios de la sociedad, que turban las almas humanas y que en el estado de naturaleza no existían. Por eso, Rousseau, asegura que en el estado de naturaleza no habría necesidad de médicos ni especialistas porque estos profesionales cumplen una función curativa dentro de la sociedad, para los problemas que en ella y por ella se generan, que serían inexistentes en el estado de naturaleza, en donde la unidad corpórea del hombre con la Naturaleza, satisficiera todas las necesidades en la inmediatez. Advierte, a menudo, sobre la estupidez que representa trasplantar los problemas del hombre civilizado al buen salvaje, las corrupciones de la sociedad al estado de naturaleza y, así, deformar toda la lente de comprensión.
En la civilización, de hecho, para Rousseau, el hombre se hace más débil y fundamentalmente, esclavo. Está expuesto y blandamente desarmado. Se vuelve torpe e inútil, incapaz de valerse por sus propios medios naturales. El hombre civilizado es un esclavo que no sabe que lo es, o si lo sabe, no lo recuerda. Esas cadenas están dibujadas en una zona a la que el hombre, conscientemente, no puede llegar. Son cadenas invisibles para él, y eso hace a lo más terrible de su esclavitud. Avisa, Rousseau, por lo tanto, que no podemos concebir, desde acá, desde estas tierras civilizadas, con el polvo pensante de la sociedad, a aquel hombre salvaje: se nos muestra extravagante e impúdico, tonto y aburrido, montaraz y pervertido.
Es imposible, realmente no hay chances, de pensar al hombre salvaje y comprenderlo plenamente, desde la civilización, precisamente, por todas las taras que ésta presupone y que, en aquel estado, no existirían. La Naturaleza cuida y ejerce su derecho de madre celosamente; el abandono de ella, cuando se produce ese corte histórico en donde el hombre se suelta de la mano de la Madre Naturaleza para pasar a regirse por sus propias reglas sociales, vuelve al hombre, o a cualquier animal que siga ese camino, temeroso y sumiso, cuestiones bien visibles en la domesticación –algo que aparece notoriamente cuando domesticamos a una mascota y la hacemos perder todo cuanto de ser salvaje y autónomo posee, y los animales no solo ablandan al extremo su carácter, sino hasta pierden robustez; el hombre salvaje tiene cualidades físicas muy superiores al hombre civilizado, que inventó todo para no hacer nada-.
Ese hombre de sociedad, en efecto, es totalmente dependiente de pautas que debe cumplir a rajatabla, deseoso del aplauso ajeno, angurriento por ser el que más tiene y el mejor, egoísta y avaro, ciego ante los lujos e impiadoso para lograrlos. El hombre civilizado no quiere lo justo para satisfacerse, ni siquiera un poco más que sirva de lujo ostentoso, el hombre civilizado no tiene límite en su ambición, quiere siempre más y más, para ser superior al resto, para dominar, para estar por sobre todas las cosas.El paso a la cultura es un paso lamentable en donde el hombre borra de su memoria todo su pasado: ya no recuerda al buen salvaje y su relación casi de disolución con la naturaleza; olvida su auténtica unidad maternal; deja de lado a la cosa de la cual es producto y procura diferenciarse de ella; no sabe, en realidad, si aquello existió o no.
No lo tiene presente, no le atribuye verdadera importancia. Es el niño que, al formarse la conciencia moral, olvida su prehistoria con su madre, cuando el cuerpo de ella y el suyo formaban un Uno total y completo. En Rousseau, como en Marx y Freud, la cultura marca un quiebre fundamental que trocará, futuramente, toda la existencia del hombre y su concurso en la relación con los demás. La cultura es el trazo inicial de la historia, que manda al olvido, al inconsciente, toda la historia anterior. Por eso en Rousseau, como también en Marx y Freud, está implícita la idea que es la historia, en su fundación cultural, la que define y produce a la verdad, que es, por consiguiente, una verdad histórica y no en sí misma. Y si es histórica, comprendemos, es una verdad abstracta, producto de esa mente moralizada, fruto de la organización social en la civilización.Las pasiones que tienden, en el buen salvaje, a conservar su vida, con la aparición de la civilización, de la mano del avance del conocimiento y el desarrollo técnico, pasa a ser un interés utilitario: el hombre civilizado se volvió, de repente, codicioso; es su ambición ilimitada el deseo de subsistencia. Solo que ahora la subsistencia, en este periodo civilizado, adquiere connotaciones diferentes a las propias del estado de naturaleza.
Esa subsistencia pasa a estar regida por los nuevos significados sociales que surgen de la misma confrontación de intereses que se dan en toda sociedad. El hombre en sociedad quiere satisfacer sus necesidades, y una vez logrado eso, anhela lujos; cuando los tiene, ilusiona el placer extremo y, finalmente, cuando conquista ese placer sublime, no se detiene, sino que pretende riquezas y más riquezas y más y más hasta convertirse en el dueño tiránico de todos los hombres y de la naturaleza misma. Hay un cierto fetichismo en la relación que el hombre civilizado tiene con los objetos del mundo que va recogiendo y con los cuales pretende saciar su hambre de preponderancia, esto ya de deja ver, diagonalmente, en las ideas de Rousseau.
La aparición de la razón, de esa forma, fue el motivo que llevo al hombre a despreciar todo lo exterior; el hecho clave en la separación y diferenciación del hombre con el suelo natural del que surge y en el cual convive hasta el liminal momento del quiebre. El comercio, la competencia, las guerras, la abundancia, la miseria, la desolación, las catástrofes, según nos comenta Rousseau, son todos avisos desesperados del olvido de la Naturaleza. Es lógico: las necesidades se van multiplicando y, cuanto más urgentes y artificiales, más difícil de satisfacer. El hombre debe recurrir a nuevos medios, a nuevas formas, a nuevos mecanismos, para salvar dichas necesidades y comenzar su paso firme y triunfal hacia el apoderamiento de todo. Las pasiones del hombre civilizado se intensifican y ya nada reconoce digno fuera de sí: quiere ser el amo del mundo, apropiárselo, porque el mundo está ahí y puede pertenecerle.¿Y desde cuando el hombre salvaje se ve invadido por esos vicios, cuál es el momento del quiebre rotundo que marca el paso a la civilización y al comienzo de los males que Rousseau nos describe y sobre los que nos alerta? Puntualmente, Rousseau nos dice, es la aparición de la propiedad privada, que abre todo un nuevo campo de significaciones y formas de relación que determinan la necesidad del establecimiento de normas que regulen y, por ende, de la conformación de un cuerpo social. La propiedad privada necesita de esa civilización para existir. Por eso, desde el momento en que uno se refirió a algo como propio y todos los demás le creyeron, desde entonces, el traspaso a la civilización estaba puesto en marcha. El deseo de posesión entonces se ve impulsado y desata, en fin, los males ya conocidos.
Rousseau pone al conocimiento de la muerte, la toma de conciencia sobre ella, una toma de conciencia que inaugura el miedo irreversible, como una de las adquisiciones más importantes de la entrada del hombre en la cultura. Al igual que Freud, nos alerta que el temor a la muerte es un temor civilizado, que surge en la entrada del hombre a la cultura.
Lo cual nos dice mucho, ya que antes, cuando el hombre estaba afincado al suelo material, cuando estaba en relación de unicidad con la Naturaleza, en la relación simbiótica con su madre, ese temor no existía, no había conciencia de la mortandad, todas las necesidades satisfechas en la inmediatez por ese ser ingente, omnipotente y omnipresente, todo resuelto por la Madre.
El hombre salvaje, nos confirma Rousseau, no le teme a la muerte; de hecho, no sabe que va a morir. En su unión con la Naturaleza, solo le provoca malestar, quizás terror, la insatisfacción de sus necesidades más básicas –lo que se produce al igual que el niño en su primera relación con la madre-, que la naturaleza misma siempre se encarga de resolver; porque ella sabe lo que el hombre salvaje necesita y por eso se lo alcanza, para que éste pueda servirse de ellos y disfrutar del placer de ese encuentro. Tendrá el hombre salvaje, en toda oportunidad, a su disposición el alimento, una hembra y un lugar para reposar; esas son sus necesidades, no más. Al igual que Freud, en la instancia de la experiencia arcaica de relación sensible, el niño no concibe la muerte y se siente completo; al igual que el buen salvaje, quien en la Naturaleza, sienta esa misma completud. Vemos que ese niño en su experiencia arcaica, que el buen salvaje en su fundición con la Naturaleza, es el ser genérico que Marx pone antes de la separación histórica del hombre y la mujer.
El buen salvaje es el que encuentra en la Naturaleza el cuerpo común. En las ideas rousseaunianas está presente, tal vez de modo tácito, la castración y el fantasma del padre, la ley imperiosa que cercena; esa ruptura del vínculo inicial, es fundamental, por ella se da el paso a la civilización y, según nos dice Rousseau, el comienzo de las lacras que hacen olvidar el pasado bucólico.

Muy buen texto, encuentro en él muchos puntos de contacto con Amor y Juego: fundamentos olvidados de lo humano de Humberto Maturana. Él habla de sociedades patriarcales y matriarcalistas. Cómo una cultura englobó a la otra. Me interesa el tema sobre todo por el concepto de fraternidad, muy ligado al buen salvaje ya al matriarcalismo de Maturana. Si la única referente familiar, constatable es la madre, no hay padre con quién batirse en duelo edípico.
En "El Origen de la Familia, la Propiedad Privada y el Estado" de Federico Engels, también hay una desinencia de este tipo, de lo maternal a lo patriarcal. La pregunta es si muchas de estas cuestiones, en la postmodernidad, no se pondrán en crisis. Mi respuesta es que sí, ergo veo una vuelta a Rousseau
